A man reported to be a Syrian refugee killed one woman and injured two others with a machete in the German town of Reutlingen Sunday.

The attacker was apprehended by police shortly after the attacks and is currently in custody, according to German media reports. The assault took place at a kebab shop near the town’s central bus station and left one woman dead, while another woman and a man sustained injuries.

Reutlingen police headquarters have identified the perpetrator as a 21-year-old Syrian asylum seeker. According to the police website, he had been known to police prior to the attack.

The man’s motivation for the assault is unclear, but authorities believe he acted alone in the attack and that the town is no longer under any current threat.

The picture below shows the perpetrator in police custody just minutes after the attack.

The machete attack comes just two days after an 18-year-old German-Iranian man shot and killed nine people at a shopping mall in Munich, Germany. Munich authorities reported the attack was also a so-called lone wolf attack, and that the shooter did not have any accomplices.
