An Israeli woman visiting India says she was gang-raped over the weekend after accepting an early-morning car ride from six men.

The 25-year-old woman got into a car she thought was a taxi early Sunday morning, the Associated Press reports.

After driving her through a secluded area in the mountainous region in northern India around 3 a.m. Sunday, two of the six men allegedly raped her. The others in the car reportedly did nothing to stop the attack.

“There were six people in the car and two of the occupants raped her, she alleged,” Padam Chand, a police superintendent in the town of Manali said.

Police are questioning two of the men from the vehicle, and searching for the other four, Chand said.(RELATED: Indian Mob Breaks Accused Rapist Out of Prison, Strips Him Naked And Beats Him To Death)

The woman, whom police have not identified, said the other men in the car were complicit in the crime and would not help her during the rape. She tried to save herself by shouting, but no one in the surrounding area could hear her in the early morning hours, according to Indian news outlet The Hindu.

Himachal Pradesh, the northern region of India where the woman was visiting, is a popular destination for young Israelis after completing their mandatory military service, according to the AP.

Rapes of female tourists in India have risen over the past several years. An American woman was raped by three men last year in Dharamsala, another town in Himachal Pradesh, and a 51-year-old Danish woman was assaulted by between two and eight men when she got lost in Delhi, the densely-populated Indian capital city.
