Democratic delegates supporting Sen. Bernie Sanders staged a walkout Tuesday at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in response to Hillary Clinton getting the nomination.

Clinton officially seized the nomination Tuesday, but her campaign has been plagued with controversy. Democratic leadership has been accused of colluding with her campaign to undercut her competition after Wikileaks released 20,000 emails. Sanders delegates walked out during the convention in response to her winning the nomination.

“Honestly it kind of grew organically,” Oregon Delegate Steve Bintliff told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “I think a lot of state delegations for Bernie Sanders were really fed up with how we’ve been treated. That coupled with what we learned about Wikileaks over the weekend which showed basically there was no way for our candidate could have won. It was a fraud.”

Bintliff adds that some delegates walked into the media tent outside the convention before police shut them in. Democratic Party Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was forced to resign in the wake of the email leak.

“It was manipulated from day one according to the articles we were able to see and documents I have personally read on Wikileaks,” Bintliff also noted. “There was collusion with the media and the full force of the DNC, which is supposed to be a mutual organization. They were basically put in the employment of the Hillary campaign.”

Sanders supporters even claimed they were silenced by party officials while at the convention. Democratic officials were reportedly seizing signs from Sanders supporters at the convention. California Delegate Mary Yoon added they had to smuggle signs into the convention because party officials banned anything that didn’t show support for Clinton.

“We were talking about how we should protest the nonsense that goes on inside this building,” Yoon told TheDCNF. “It’s a police state in there more or less and it’s a disgrace to the United States and as delegates I am going back to my constituents telling them exactly what happened.”

Sanders has been viewed by many as a genuine political candidate. Clinton, however, has epitomized the established and the political system. Her ties to large corporations and banks have put her at odds with party members who truly believed in Sanders and his stance against Wall Street.

“If she is lucky enough to get elected I think we’re going to see the first woman president also impeach among with her sexual predictor husband,” Yoon continued. “That’s what I think about him.”
