Republican party leadership expressed doubt Monday that Democratic voters are truly behind Hillary Clinton, since so many at the Democratic National Convention are still supporting Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Clinton secured the nomination June 6 over Sanders, her primary rival. Clinton has still struggled to unite the party, even with Sanders endorsing her himself. The Republican National Committee (RNC) noticed the internal struggle after seeing many at the Democratic convention were clearly still behind Sanders.

“This felt more like a convention for Bernie Sanders than for Hillary Clinton,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement provided to The Daily Caller News Foundation. “Throughout this primary, a 74-year old socialist from Vermont has encouraged grassroots Democrats to reject Hillary Clinton’s pay-to-play politics and cronyism, and the deep division that has fostered was on full display.”

Priebus added that the convention floor was nearly on the verge of chaos as Sanders supporters clashed with Clinton backers. Sanders’ support base claims it was unfairly treated by party leadership. DNC emails were leaked last week and allegedly show party leadership worked with Clinton to undermine Sanders.

“Pointing to growing wealth inequality, millions stuck in poverty, and stagnant wages under President Obama, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders made the case for why we can’t have four more years of the same failed policies under Hillary Clinton,” Priebus continued. “Only Donald Trump and Mike Pence can bring the change our country so desperately needs.”

Democratic Party Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was even forced to resign in the wake of the leaked emails. Sanders supporters even claimed they were silenced by party officials while at the convention. Democratic officials were reportedly seizing signs from Sanders supporters at the convention.

Sanders has been viewed by many as a genuine political candidate. Clinton, however, has epitomized the established and the political system. Her ties to large corporations and banks have put her at odds with party members who truly believed in Sanders and his stance against Wall Street.
