PHILADELPHIA–Hillary Clinton lavished her former Democratic primary opponent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders with praise Thursday night during her remarks at the Democratic National Convention, but Sanders’ reaction to Clinton’s compliments was underwhelming.
“I want to thank Bernie Sanders,” Clinton said to the cheering crowd. “Bernie, your campaign inspired millions of Americans–particularly the young people who put their hearts and souls into our primary. You put economic and social justice issues front and center where they belong.”
Sanders, who endorsed Clinton and later moved her nomination by acclimation Wednesday night, sat stone faced during the praise that Clinton heaped upon him. Some Sanders supporters stood silently in the convention hall with Bernie Sanders campaign signs, while Sanders delegates staged a walk out.
