Sometimes I despair that all hope is lost. It seems like the human race is incapable of learning from our mistakes. We just keep doing the same stupid crap over and over and over again. I get numb to it all. Sure, the sun’ll come out tomorrow, but… who cares?
And then I hear some great news that cheers me right back up again! Peter Sterne, Politico:
Gawker Media founder Nick Denton filed for Chapter 11 personal bankruptcy protection on Monday, in order to prevent former professional wrestler Hulk Hogan from moving to seize his assets. A.J. Daulerio, a former editor of Gawker.com, is also expected to file for bankruptcy…
In March 2015, a Florida jury decided in favor of Hogan, awarding him $140.1 million — $15 million against Gawker, $10 million against Denton personally, $100,000 against Daulerio personally, and $115 million against all three defendants jointly…
Gawker, Denton and Daulerio are appealing the judgment, but the appeals court likely will not rule on whether to uphold or throw out the judgment until next year. Until that ruling, Hogan is free to seize their assets to enforce the judgment.
In other words, Denton got one of these:
But he’s taking it well:
(1/2) Gawker Media Group’s resilient brands and people will thrive under new ownership, when the sale closes in the next few weeks.

(2/2) On this bitter day for me, I am consoled by the fact that my colleagues will soon be freed from this tech billionaire’s vendetta.

Well, Nick, you should’ve thought about that before you violated people’s privacy. It doesn’t matter if Peter Thiel funded the lawsuit, or Lex Luthor, or the Boogeyman. What you did was wrong, and now you’re paying for it. Oh, are you ever paying for it.
I love it when bad things happen to bad people! It might not mean much in the long run, but at this point I’ll take whatever happy news I can get. 🙂
