New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton Is Stepping Down

New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton is expected to announce he is resigning from his post Tuesday.

Chief of Department James O’Neill is anticipated to take over, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Bratton, 68, notified Mayor Bill de Blasio in late July he would be stepping down. According to the details of the official resignation, Bratton will continue to serve as commissioner until the end of the mayor’s term, which lasts for 16 more months.

The joint announcement from Bratton and de Blasio is scheduled for 12 p.m. Tuesday, officials told WSJ.
