Former GOP presidential hopeful Ben Carson said he believes Republican nominee Donald Trump will endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan in his primary during an appearance on CNN Wednesday.

Trump told The Washington Post Tuesday he’s “not quite there yet” on endorsing Ryan, while praising his primary opponent Paul Nehlen’s campaign.

Carson, now an adviser to Trump, assured the GOP nominee is focused on unifying the party, despite tanking the Wisconsin Republican’s primary opponent via Twitter for supporting his proposal to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the United States.

“Well, he’s very pro-unity in the party, and he will be obviously on board with Paul Ryan,” he told host Wolf Blitzer. “Paul Ryan is a tremendous guy. I have great respect for him, great intellect.”

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus reportedly expressed his disapproval of Trump’s comments to top campaign aides.

Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, came out in strong support for Ryan Wednesday.

Ryan was initially hesitant on endorsing Trump, but opted to announce his support of the candidate in June.

“I talked to Donald Trump this morning about my support for Paul Ryan, a longtime friendship, he strongly encouraged me to endorse Paul Ryan in next Tuesday’s primary. I’m pleased to do it,” he said during an appearance on Fox News Wednesday.
