Ever since “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” star John Boyega referred to actress Kelly Marie Tran as one of the new leads in “Star Wars: Episode VIII,” fans have been wondering just what exactly her role will be in the upcoming sequel. Now, they may finally have an answer.
A new rumor that is gaining steam online suggests that Tran plays an “information broker” and is paired with Boyega’s Finn in a pivotal scene.
Her character’s name is said to be Aya and it is believed that she flirts with Finn in order to manipulate him into a confrontation with the First Order. The scene in question apparently takes place in an upscale space bar and boasts an impressive visual aesthetic.
But just how big is Tran’s role in “Star Wars: Episode VIII?” It is said that she has “more screen time than Max von Sydow [had] in [“The Force Awakens”], but less than Oscar Isaac.” That means that while Tran may not exactly qualify as a new lead, it does sound as if her role is a significant one.
This information also dispels rumors of Finn remaining in a coma for the majority of “Episode VIII,” which is good news for fans. Unfortunately, the specifics of Finn’s mission and his scene with Tran are unknown, but this new report does help to answer many questions fans have been debating.
“Star Wars: Episode VIII” is directed by Rian Johnson and is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
