Will Smith says his new film “Suicide Squad” is a great representation of diversity in America.

Speaking to Variety at the film’s premiere Tuesday night, Smith praised the movie for its inclusiveness in casting and spoke at length about how the film reflects American ideals.

“[W]hat I love about working with this group, as you see up on this stage, it’s a rainbow. It’s all races, creeds, and colors. This is the diversity that this country is supposed to be about. It’s the inclusion this country is supposed to be about.”

Smith has long been known for his positive comments on divisive issues over the years and this quote is no different. What’s funny is that it comes while he’s promoting “Suicide Squad,” a film that centers on a group of criminals and villains who are tasked with saving the world.

While “Suicide Squad” isn’t being met with the best critical reception, it is on pace to earn anywhere between $100 million and $140 million in its opening weekend. With that kind of box office performance, Warner Bros. doesn’t have to worry quite as much about what the critics are saying.
