Activist Ali Muhammad — a prominent member of the Tampa New Black Panthers — was recently robbed at gunpoint, and he told WTVT (FL) that the experience changed his view of police.

Muhammad explained that a “young black male” snuck up behind him before threatening him with a firearm.

He “just came up to me and said, ‘Give me your earrings and your backpack,'” the young man added. “He took everything I had. At the time, he didn’t take my cell phone, and that’s what made me call 911.”

Muhammad also detailed following his assailant — later identified as 18-year-old Antwan Robertson — and recounted the terror his next, several victims experienced.

“One lady, she was in tears. She said she couldn’t believe it. He had the gun in her mouth.”

Authorities eventually arrested Robertson, for which Muhammad “congratulated the police.”

“Police can be hostile and very belligerent,” he stated. “Friday night, I met some officers who [were] about business, and that was getting a bad guy off the street.”

Muhammad noted that while he is still “very anti-police,” he is not against “police relations and community relations.”
