A man is dead after his adult son allegedly stabbed him Wednesday afternoon outside a children’s hospital in northwest Washington, D.C.

The attack took place at roughly 3:40 p.m. EST on the 100 block of Michigan Avenue near the Children’s National Medical Center. The suspect is believed to be the victim’s son, and fled the scene after the attack. Authorities rushed the victim to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect remains at large as the Metropolitan Police Department investigates the crime, reports WJLA.

Police say the suspect is a black male wearing a white shirt with black pants. Eyewitnesses also saw him carrying a green shirt.

A spokesman for the Children’s National Medical Center said the attack did not occur inside the hospital and no lockdown was initiated, according to NBC4.

The attack marks the second fatal stabbing in northwest D.C. this week. A man was murdered Monday night at 7:37 p.m. at 2nd and E Street near Chinatown. The unidentified victim suffered a fatal stabbing wound and was pronounced dead at a local area hospital. Police apprehended the suspect in the attack.
