Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker introduced Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence at a campaign rally in Milwaukee Thursday.
Thursday’s event was the first time Walker campaigned with Pence since last week’s rally in Green Bay, when Walker snubbed Republican nominee Donald Trump by declining the invitation to join him on the stage. He opted instead to attend a small “all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner” fundraiser. Walker’s decision not to attend the Trump campaign rally came days after Trump tweeted his support for the primary challenger to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.
Walker strongly criticized Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during his introduction, telling supporters Clinton is “completely unfit to be president.” He later said he wouldn’t give her the password to his iPhone.
After considerable pressure from leading Republicans, Trump finally endorsed Ryan at a campaign speech in which the Republican nominee also endorsed Sens. John McCain and Kelly Ayotte.
Walker has campaigned with Pence since the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. He introduced Pence at an event two weeks ago in Waukesha.
Walker initially voiced his support for whoever the nominee would be, only solidifying his support of Trump in an interview with Fox News host Greta Van Susteren. Before the interview, Walker tweeted, “He is better than she is.”
“I said on this stage almost a year ago August 6th of last year that any of the Republicans running would be better than Hillary Clinton,” Walker said during the interview.
“Obviously Donald Trump wasn’t my first choice. I was my first choice. As you mentioned I supported Ted in the primary of Wisconsin. But I meant what I said last year any of the Republicans running was infinitely better than Hillary Clinton. And obviously Donald Trump is our nominee. And he’s better than Hillary Clinton.”
