Racially-charged riots in Milwaukee and rampant flooding in Louisiana haven’t kept President Barack Obama from golfing on Martha’s Vineyard Monday afternoon for the second consecutive day.
The federal government declared a major disaster in Louisiana after rampant flooding left six people dead and more than 10,000 in shelters. More than 20,000 people have been rescued from flooding across south Louisiana, Fox News reports.
In Milwaukee, authorities have struggled to control racially-charged riots stemming from the police shooting of an armed suspect on Saturday. Both the suspect and the officer were black. Several videos recording Saturday night appeared to show black rioters chasing down and attacking white passerby. (RELATED: Milwaukee Rioters Hunt Down, Attack Whites)
At 11:15 a.m. Monday morning, President Obama arrived at Vineyard Golf Club, where he’ll spend the afternoon golfing with businessman Marty Nesbitt, lawyer Cy Walker and former NBA player Alonzo Mourning, according to White House pool reports. The weather was described as a “pitch-perfect afternoon.”
Walker and Mourning were golfing with the president for the second day in a row.
They previously joined Obama for a Sunday afternoon at Farm Neck Golf Club — which the pool report notes is one of the president’s favorite courses on Martha’s Vineyard — before attending a private party at Lola’s restaurant. “We are the large party specialists!” the restaurant’s website states. The Obamas remained at the party past midnight.
