John McLaughlin, the host of the longtime syndicated political roundtable show “McLaughlin Group,” died Tuesday, according to a post on his show’s website. He was 89.

“Earlier this morning, a beloved friend and mentor, Dr. John McLaughlin, passed away peacefully at the age of 89,” the post read. “As a former Jesuit priest, teacher, pundit and news host, John touched many lives.”

Continuing, the post read: “For 34 years, The McLaughlin Group informed millions of Americans. Now he has said bye bye for the last time, to rejoin his beloved dog, Oliver, in heaven. He will always be remembered.”

The show has aired since 1982 and was syndicated on stations across the country on weekends. The format involved McLaughlin talking about political issues with a group of panelists, often including Patrick Buchanan, Eleanor Clift, Tom Rogan and Clarence Page.
