Mexican officials say Iván Guzmán, aka, “El Chapito” (Little Shorty), the eldest son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, may have been one of six kidnapped while at a coastal resort in Puerto Vallarta.

Authorities confirm that another of El Chapo’s sons Jesús Alfredo Guzmán was one of the kidnapped.  Along with Juan Daniel Calva Tapia, Josias Nahujali Rabago Borbolla, and Víctor Galvan Ureña.

Iván is the heir to the Sinaloa cartel while dad is in a Juarez prison.  With “El Chapo” in custody, facing U.S extradition, a group of armed men thought to be part of Jalisco New Generation cartel, a one time ally of the Sinaloa, are trying to show that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Seven armed men raided La Leche just after 1 a.m. Monday.  No shots were fired and they made their getaway in two white SUVs.  Eduardo Almaguer, the attorney general of Jalisco, has not attributed the kidnapping to the Jalisco New Generation cartel, but he asserted all involved have ties to organized crime.

This kidnapping happened just two months after the home of “El Chapo”‘s mother,Consuelo Loera de Guzmán, was raided.

The once untouchable Sinaloa cartel is beginning to erode without “El Chapo” running the show.  These attacks on the Sinaloa cartel are raising alarm in Mexico, where many fear violence will escalate in the struggle for power in the drug trade.
