For those who don’t despise the site, grab the tissues.

Next week Gawker officially comes to an end.

The news was announced on the site Thursday.

Thankfully many employees will likely shift to other sites.

Gawker Media was purchased by Univision this week for $135 million.

The recent lawsuit with Hulk Hogan — funded by dickwad Peter Thiel — torpedoed Gawker founder Nick Denton into bankruptcy.

“After nearly fourteen years of operation, Gawker.com will be shutting down next week. The decision to close Gawker comes days after Univision successfully bid $135 million for Gawker Media’s six other websites, and four months after the Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel revealed his clandestine legal campaign against the company.”

Just like in A Walk To Remember, Gawker will die toward the end of summer. In the film, viewers fall in love with the character of a young woman who dies of cancer.

As summer ends, so does the life of Jamie Sullivan, the character in the film.

No doubt, there will be a terrible void.
