Democrat staffers successfully used profiling to out a Republican activist posing as a campaign volunteer Wednesday, and The Huffington Post is absolutely giddy over the whole thing.

The blonde woman tried to enlists as a volunteer for Democrat Sen. Russ Feingold Wednesday, telling staffers she had been an active member of College Democrats at the University of Minnesota. But they were tipped off to her real intentions when they took a second look at her profile.

“The would-be infiltrator was blonde and drove a big white pickup truck, which staff said was part of the tipoff,” reports the Huffington Post. Apparently alarmed, the staffers pulled the woman aside and began questioning her backstory — one of them had attended the University of Minnesota and remembered her as a member of the College Republicans.

The woman identified herself as Allison Moss. She denied charges of infiltration and refused to answer their questions. The Feingold staffers promptly sent the Huffington Post audio of the exchange and a picture that shows the woman’s profile as she is being questioned.

Between the staffers and the Huffington Post they apparently figured out she is actually Allison Maass, a staffer for the conservative news outlet Campus Reform, whose bio says she “exposes liberal bias and abuse in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.” Maass did not respond to their requests for comment.

Campus Reform later released a statement saying Maass no longer works for them. “Campus Reform had no involvement in her apparent attempt to infiltrate the campaign of former Senator Russ Feingold. In fact, Campus Reform has not had any contact with Ms. Maass since her graduation,” editor-in-chief Sterling Beard said in a statement.

Apparently thrilled at their findings, the Huffington Post quickly threw up the headline “A Right-Wing Activist Tried To Infiltrate A Democratic Campaign. It Didn’t Go Well.”

“You just can’t find good undercover help these days,” the post begins.

Democrats are understandably jumpy about undercover conservative activists, who have released video and audio over the years embarrassing a number of their pet organizations and causes. The dust still hasn’t settled over an undercover operation conducted by pro-life activists that exposed Planned Parenthood’s dealings in the parts of aborted fetuses.
