The Washington Post and other media outlets bury key facts about the stabbing of a Jewish man in a story Thursday, choosing not to rewrite an Associated Press headline to reflect the assailant shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the assault.

Although the man attacked a Jewish man wearing “clear exterior signs of his religion” and police were told he shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the assault, The Washington Post left that information out of the headline and first few paragraphs. Instead the story leads with the man’s “psychiatric problems.”

The Toronto Sun ran this headline: “‘Allahu akbar’; Jewish man targeted in France knife attack, say police.” But The Washington Post and other outlets — including Yahoo News and ABC News — ran the AP headline, “France: Unstable Attacker Targets Jewish Man with Knife.”

The body of the AP story also remains intact. “Police say a man with a history of psychiatric problems attacked a Jewish man with a knife in the eastern French city of Strasbourg,” reads the first sentence.

The attacker’s self-identification with Islam is not mentioned until the middle of the story, and is followed by the news that local police don’t consider it a “terrorist” attack and have identified the attacker as someone with unspecified “clear deficiencies” and a police record.

The story only mentions recent attacks in Europe committed by Islamic terrorists in the last two sentences, and mentions vaguely that Jews have been “specifically targeted in some past violence.”

France has been hit hard in recent weeks by Islamic terror. In June, an Islamic terrorist killed 84 people in France when he plowed into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, and in July, two Islamic terrorists slit the throat of a Catholic priest celebrating mass.
