MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell said on Tuesday that Donald Trump’s call for a special prosecutor to investigate the Clintons and their foundation is “getting into Hillary Clinton’s head.”
Appearing on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Report,” Mitchell said, “I’m not suggesting [Trump’s] going to stay on script, but the script is different in that talking about a special prosecutor, in talking about Arkansas, this is, Kasie Hunt, this is getting into Hillary Clinton’s head. “It is a different playbook, Andrea,” Hunt replied. Adding, “But I think that the Trump campaign has been much more effective the past couple of days in highlighting these controversies that really do harken back to everything that — you know, it plays directly into what many Americans who are on the fence, many swing voters, are inclined to believe about Clintons.”
“And it’s clear that someone is now telling Donald Trump, ‘Hey, if you want to win this thing, you have to do it by making it about her.’ And I think more than any period in the campaign so far, I think they’ve been most successful in doing that,” Hunt said. Hunt went on to say, “This is clearly building a case around this idea of pay-for-play of influence pedaling that is part of what drives those untrustworthy numbers that are such a problem for her.”
During a campaign rally in Ohio on Monday, Trump called for a special prosecutor to investigate the Clinton Foundation.
Trump said, “The Clintons’ made the State Department into the same kind of Pay-to-Play operations as the Arkansas Government was: pay the Clinton Foundation huge sums of money and throw in some big speaking fees for Bill Clinton and you got to play with the State Department. The amounts involved, the favors done and the significant numbers of times it was done require an expedited investigation by a Special Prosecutor. After the FBI and Department of Justice whitewash of the Clinton email crimes, they certainly cannot be trusted to quickly or impartially investigate Hillary Clinton’s crimes. Some former prosecutors have even suggested that the coordination between the pay-for-play State Department and the corrupt Clinton Foundation constitute a clear example of a RICO enterprise. The Justice Department is required to appoint an independent Special Prosecutor because it has proven itself to be a political arm of the White House.”
