Summer camp staffers on the campus of the University of New Mexico allowed high school students participating in the camp to dissect the brains of aborted babies.

Paul Roth, the dean of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, can be seen admitting to the allegation in a video published this month by the New Mexico Alliance for Life.

WATCH:

“Can I please ask you to say what you said before regarding the workshop with UNM fetal remains with high school students?” an off-camera voice asks Roth.

“Yes. We had a faculty member who obtained some tissue, and during one of the summer workshops, uh, dissected, umm — I think one — one or two fetal brains,” Roth answers.

(The off-camera voice belongs to a woman named Marcie May, according to LifeNews.com.)

Roth would not elaborate about the source of the aborted baby brains or the way in which the taxpayer-funded university obtained them to be sliced up by high school kids on the summer learning adventure.

Earlier this summer, Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) of the U.S. House Select Panel on Infant Lives cited a May 2012 request to the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center “for digoxin treated tissue 24-28 weeks for methylation study + because [redacted] wants whole, fixed brains to dissect w/ summer camp students. Clinic est. 27 and 28 weeks.”

A fetus can be a viable, living baby as early as 22 weeks, according to an authority no less than ThinkProgress.org.

As LifeNews observes, the request for the fetal tissue appears to violate a New Mexico law, the Jonathan Spradling Revised Uniform Anatomical Gift Act, which forbids using aborted baby remains for medical research.

“The video interview with Paul Roth corroborates the allegation made by the Select Panel,” Operation Rescue president Troy Newman told the pro-life website. “There should be immediate criminal charges filed against UNM and Roth, who apparently took no issue with high school kids dissecting aborted baby brains, and whoever requested the brains in the first place.”
