After Anthony Weiner’s third sexting scandal broke this week, Hillary Clinton’s top aide announced the two were separating after six years of marriage. Now Vanity Fair is calling Abedin a “feminist hero” because — they believe — she only stayed with him so she could get Hillary Clinton elected president. “Anyone questioning Abedin’s ability to stay with Weiner after he shamed her and degraded their marriage, calling her decision anti-feminist, seems to be missing the point,” Vanity Fair wrote in a piece published Wednesday. “Abedin wanted to work, hard, and Weiner, for all his flaws, appeared to have become a dutiful stay-at-home dad and caretaker in the years since he exited public life.”

“Abedin put her own desire to work to elect a female president before her own pride, before spending more time with her son, before disarming the firing squad of critics shooting at her for her personal decisions for the last five years.” (RELATED: Anthony Weiner Complained That He And Huma Abedin Rarely Had Sex)

“Once her husband’s selfies made it clear that she was no longer making the right choice for her son, her calculation got more complicated. Forget the humiliation factor. It was no longer easier for her or better for her child to keep this arrangement.”

“What she was willing to put up with in order to do her job well is perhaps the most feminist move we’ve witnessed in the entire election season.”

“And in a campaign supposedly all about breaking glass ceilings on one side and speaking the politically incorrect truth on the other, Abedin is leaving the most cracks, and is making the most real choices of anyone.” (RELATED: Huma Glowingly Praised Anthony Weiner’s Parenting Just Days Ago)

“Unsurprisingly, conservative media pounced on this as an opportunity to take a whack at Abedin’s judgment as a mother,” Vanity Fair continued.

“Rush Limbaugh asked his audience: Did she ‘really not know she had a deviant taking care of her child’? Even ‘The Washington Post’ made this about her parental decisions. ‘For the third time, his questionable decisions are ensnaring his wife, one of Hillary Clinton’s top aides, by raising questions about her decision to leave their son in a potentially dangerous situation.'”
