By this point in human history, everyone knows about Fitbits. They are activity tracker wristbands that count the number of steps one travels in a day. At least, that was their original functionality. Since they first became popular half a decade ago, Fitbit has been improving and expanding its offerings, constantly updating the different models.

This week, Fitbit announced second generation versions of two of its popular wristbands – the Charge and the Flex.

Fitbit Charge 2

If you or someone you know has a Charge, you instantly see that the display of this new version is considerably larger. But there are other new features in the Charge 2 as well. If the original Charge HR was known for its ability to monitor your heart rate, the Charge 2 goes a step further with its “Cardio Fitness” metric. It also offers a “Relax” option and GPS connectivity, which promises better tracking of your steps.

The Flex is the Fitbit that I have, and, honestly, it works great for me. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles (heart rate, text messaging, alerts, etc.) of the other models. But it’s really good at the one reason I have a Fitbit to begin with: counting steps. The Fitbit Flex 2 also does this. It is considerably smaller than the original, which is ideal if you are like me and think visibly wearing a Fitbit around makes you look like a tool. Also, it’s waterproof! Finally.
