Amazon’s Alexa products, the Echo and the Tap, are extremely popular, but they both cost over $100, so they aren’t great for newbies to the personal assistant-cum-speaker market. That’s where Amazon’s new release, the Echo Dot, comes in. The Echo Dot is smaller than the other two Alexa speakers, and it only costs $50.

A “first generation” version of the Echo Dot had a limited rollout in the spring, but you could only get it if you already had an Alexa speaker. In other words, approximately zero people got one. Now, however, the “second generation” is available to everyone. It won’t be officially released until mid-October, but if you order now you are guaranteed to receive it by that date. Furthermore, by ordering now, you can take advantage of several deal options.

Amazon obviously expects the Echo Dot to be a popular Christmas gift, as evidence by the spotlight it places on the multi-pack options:

That’s right, for every five Echo Dots you buy, you get one free.

The other deal option involves pairing your Echo Dot with a Bose SoundLink speaker, so that you can control that speaker two with nothing but the sound of your voice. If you buy the Echo Dot with the Bose SoundLink Mini II right now, you can save $35 off the $250 value.
