A man wielding a knife attacked a prominent Swiss politician Saturday, a day after the leader of Germany’s Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) had her car set on fire.

Christoph Blocher, the former vice president of the Swiss People’s Party (SVP), escaped an attack from a man carrying a knife Saturday. The alleged attacker, an 81-year-old man, approached Blocher before security guards tackled him against a wall. Blocher said the attacker asked if he remembered him before swinging a punch at him.

Blocher stepped down from his role as vice president of SVP earlier this year. He led a transformation of SVP and helped the party become the most popular in the nation with an anti-immigrant and euroskeptic platform.

Frauke Petry, leader of Germany’s rising nationalist party Alternative fur Deutschland, was also subject to an attack over the weekend, as her car was set on fire by an arsonist Friday night. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, and police assume it was carried out by an arsonist.

“An arson attack was committed on my car yesterday. Is this what we have come to…” Petry wrote on Twitter after she found the car the following morning.
