Infamous boxing promoter Don King said that “you’re going to be a negro till you die” while introducing Republican nominee Donald Trump at a black church Wednesday.

“We need Donald Trump especially black people,” King said. “They told me you got to try to emulate and imitate the white man and then you’ll be successful, so we tried that.” The boxing promoter then told a story of a conversation he had with Michael Jackson about blacks’ difficulty assimilating in the United States.

“If you’re poor, you’re a poor negro, I’d use the n-word. But if you’re rich, you’re a rich negro. If you are intelligent, intellectual, you’re a intellectual negro,” King said. He then slipped up and added, “If you are a dancing and sliding and gliding nigger, I mean negro.”

The boxing promoter then said, “So dare not alienate because you cannot assimilate, so you are going to be a Negro ‘til you die.” King and Trump have been friends for a while, and King endorsed Trump in June. When it was Trump’s turn to speak Wednesday, he said, “there’s only one Don King.”
