Courage Campaign, a progressive grassroots organization, announced Monday they are commissioning a billboard to publicly support Collin Kaepernick’s protest of violence against black Americans.
The organization‘s mission is to fight “for a more progressive California and country.” The grassroots organization champions 1.3 million members around the United States.
Design Of Courage Campaign’s Kaepernick Billboard
In the wake of police shootings in Oklahoma and North Carolina last week, Courage Campaign decided to commission the new digital billboard that will adorn the iconic San Francisco Bay Bridge. The purpose of this campaign is to show support for Colin Kaepernick’s ongoing protest of the national anthem, wherein Kaepernick takes a knee and refuses to stand and place his hand over his heart for the Star Spangled Banner.
The billboard will be visible for all traffic exiting the Bay Bridge heading into the I-80 corridor in Oakland, Calif. Ironically, given his protest of the American national anthem, the billboard will feature just one word: Patriotism.
Courage Campaign started a national on-line pledge called, “Stand With Colin Kaepernick.” The pledge is meant to show support for Kaepernick’s protest stemming from the loss of black lives and the general oppression of black Americans. Some 48,000 people alone signed the petition from September 19-25.
Kaepernick has a few athletes supporting his protest, eleven to be precise. The list includes: Arian Foster of the Miami Dolphins, Brandon Marshall of the Denver Broncos, and Martellus Bennett of the the New England Patriots.
