Iowa House Democrats implored John Podesta to “make an investment” in their candidates to knock off GOP and Tea Party incumbents in 2016, according to an e-mail released through WikiLeaks.

Mark Smith, Democratic minority leader of the Iowa House of Representatives, reached out to Podesta in late December of 2015, urging him to, “make an investment in Iowa House Democrats before the end of the year.”

Smith calls the Republican and Tea Party Iowan incumbents incredibly “vulnerable,” and therefore says they should be easily knocked off with support from Podesta. Smith even says that if Podesta saved his payment information, his “donation will go through immediately.” He lists three payment options ($5, $10, and $25), but assures Podesta he can “donate another amount.”

Having stellar candidates is not enough, Smith notes. With Podesta’s help, Iowa Democrats can “make sure they have the resources to take on the Republicans and win.”
