A woman claims a grocery store cashier declined to give her service because of her pro police shirt.
Meredith, who says she did not want her last name published, alleges her “police lives matter” shirt caused a Kroger cashier to refuse to ring her up, reports ABC 13.
“She made me feel ashamed to have the shirt on and I don’t appreciate that,” Meredith told ABC 13.
According to Meredith, a teenage cashier saw her shirt and walked away from the checkout line. Meredith said she overheard her tell a coworker that Meredith’s shirt “was basically a slap in the face to her.”
While the cashier did not confront Meredith about her shirt, a different cashier came to finish ringing Meredith up.
Meredith said she talked to a Kroger about the incident multiple times, but has so far only been promised that they will look into her concerns.
A Kroger representative told ABC 13 that the matter is being looked at; because a review has not been completed, they could not offer a comment.
“It’s important that people in the service industry know that no matter what, if someone walked in with a Black Lives Matter shirt on they needed to still be serviced,” Meredith said.
A woman ran into trouble in September when Walmart bakery employees refused to bake a “Blue Live Matter” cake for her, saying that the message could be seen as racist. (RELATED: Walmart Issues Apology After Employees Refused To Bake ‘Racist’ Blue Lives Matter Cake)
Walmart apologized for the incident, saying that it had addressed the issue with those involved. The manager of the woman’s local Walmart also apologized and offered to make the cake for her.
