The Nevada state Senate passed a bill Tuesday to raise taxes in order to help fund the construction of an NFL stadium.
The bill will allocate $750 million in public money to build the stadium that the Oakland Raiders will possibly relocate to. The Nevada Senate passed Bill 1 in a 16-5 vote.
The bill “will raise room taxes in Clark Country to help pay for the stadium,” but some parts of the budget will have to be adjusted as well, according to Deadspin. The education budget would take a cut as well as mental health and critical services, the Reno Gazette-Journal reports.
Clark County commissioner Chris Guinchigliani denounced the bill that would require the largest tax increase in Nevada state history. Other groups also protested the bill while leaders in the gaming industry advocated for it, Deadspin reports.
