Commuters ran into massive service disruptions after a track fire on the D.C. Metro forced officials to single-track trains during rush-hour.

Members of the D.C. Fire and EMS Department were dispatched to Rosslyn station after reports of an arcing insulator in the nearby tunnel. Officials with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) single-tracked Orange and Silver Line trains between the Foggy Bottom and Clarendon stations. Blue Line trains were also single tracked between the Foggy Bottom and Arlington Cemetery stations, reports WJLA.

Emergency responders put the fire out a little before 7 a.m. but delays persisted throughout the morning commute. Officials advised passengers to consider alternative transport on a Metrobus to bypass the affected areas. Officials did not restore normal service along the Orange, Silver and Blue lines until 9:45 a.m.

Metro officials updated their schedule for repair work last week to deal with a litany of issues system wide. Maintenance crews worked throughout the deteriorating D.C. Metro system this weekend to conduct the critical repairs.

Orange Line trains traveling between the Vienna and West Falls Church stations are single-tracking for 42 days for Surge 9 SafeTrack repairs that began Sept. 15. D.C. Metro officials continue to warn riders at the Vienna, Dunn Loring, West Falls Church and East Falls Church stations to anticipate large disruptions to regular service throughout the maintenance work. Officials will also conduct added repairs every weekend through the surge, which ends Oct. 26.
