The relationship between Al Gore and the Clintons was “bad,” according to emails sent by Hillary Clinton’s closest aide, Huma Abedin.

Abedin was discussing the former vice president’s refusal last November to endorse Clinton for president with Cheryl Mills, Clinton’s personal lawyer and State Department chief of staff.

Mills said she was surprised by Gore’s hesitation since he had sought out Clinton’s endorsement in his 2000 White House bid.

“Well that was 16 years ago. hard to put on email but there is no love lost in this relationship,” Abedin wrote in the Nov. 11 email, reminding Mills that Gore refused to endorse Clinton in 2008.

“I know that’s why I thought this time would be different,” wrote Mills.

“No its bad,” Abedin replied.

The icy Gore-Clinton relationship has apparently thawed since that email exchange. He endorsed Clinton at a campaign event in Miami last week.
