Donald Trump has been at war with the press ever since he launched his run for the presidency and recently called them “dishonest scum.” Reporters have responded in a rather exaggerated way and are now worried about their safety.

An exchange on CNN Wednesday shows this exaggerated response from members of the media. CNN contributor Bill Carter mentioned Trump calling the press “corrupt” and “disgusting” and his colleague Brian Stelter called it, “dehumanizing language.” Stelter added, “It’s always worrisome when you strip people’s humanity away.”

Carter responded, “He’s trying to otherize the press.” Then CNN’s Chris Cuomo said, “one of his supporters is going to hurt a reporter, it’s going to happen, or a reporter is going to hurt one of his supporters. One of those things is going to happen.” CNN is prepared for Cuomo’s prediction — both they and NBC News have security for employees at Trump events.

All this fear of Trump supporters is rather overblown when one sees what members of the press are afraid of. A local reporter in Tampa tweeted out a video of a Trump supporter yelling at CNN’s Jim Acosta and called it a “frightening ‘exchange.'”

WATCH:

The man in the video is simply upset at CNN for spending its time focused on bashing Trump and ignoring the recent Wikileaks releases.

The Committee to Protect Journalists recently released a statement that said, “a Trump presidency represents a threat to press freedom unknown in modern history.” CNN covered this, and not the Wikileaks release showing Hillary Clinton telling Goldman Sachs behind closed doors that countries she publicly calls allies also fund terrorists.
