North Korean state television released a long propaganda video showing Kim Jong-Un leading the Korean People’s Army.

When he is not stuffing himself with wine and cheese, the rather rotund Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Un is apparently off flying planes, riding around on submarines, firing guns, and directing artillery strikes. In the hour-long Korean Central Television (KCTV) video “Kim Jong-un the Great Supreme Commander and the Consolidation of a Powerful Army,” Kim is presented as a heroic renaissance man.

WATCH:

The 32-year-old dictator is seen saluting troops, delivering speeches, meeting with senior officials, and grinning like a schoolboy every time someone pulls out a firearm. Kim is also shown riding a tank and sitting inside a military aircraft, as well as overseeing missile tests.

Kim may not be the hero he appears to be in the video. While flying a plane, viewers can see the co-pilot gripping the throttle. At the shooting range, Kim can be seen holding a gun, but without Kim in the shot, two bullets hit the center of the target.

Due to his drinking and overeating, Kim has grown to 290 pounds. Recently, he reportedly claimed that he downed ten bottles of wine during a meal.

Kim’s father also had a propensity for exaggeration and questionable claims of greatness. Kim Jong-il reportedly shattered world records during his first-ever game of golf, wrote six full operas in just two years’ time, learned to walk when he was only three-weeks old, and invented the hamburger.

If their claims and propaganda videos are to be believed, there is little the Kim family can’t do, but there are a lot of reasons to be suspicious.

Despite the absurdity of North Korean propaganda, the North’s regular ballistic missile and nuclear tests should be taken seriously. Pyongyang has tested numerous ballistic missiles this year and conducted two powerful nuclear tests, and evidence suggests that the North is working on either intermediate-range missiles that could hit targets in Guam or intercontinental ballistic missiles that could reach the U.S.
