One of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s aides said she knew James Comey was a bad choice for FBI director in an October 2015 email released by WikiLeaks.

In an email to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, Clinton communications director Jennifer Palmieri wrote, “I get a big, fat ‘i told you so’ on comey being a bad choice.”

That was in reference to a New York Times article, linked in the email, that reported on Comey’s statement that the “Ferguson effect” could be leading to increased rates of violent crimes. The White House publicly noted its disagreement with this conclusion.

Palmieri was the White House communications director when President Barack Obama nominated Comey for FBI director in June 2013. Comey was approved by the Senate a month later.

The FBI director rocked the presidential election and damaged Clinton’s chances at the White House when he sent a letter to Congress at the end of October, announcing his intention to “re-open” an FBI probe into Clinton’s use of a private email server.

The FBI reportedly found emails pertinent to the Clinton investigation while looking through devices used by former Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner, during a separate investigation of his alleged sexting with a teenage girl.

Since the announcement, Republican nominee Donald Trump’s chances of winning the election have doubled, according to the polling website 538.
