Vice President-elect Mike Pence will lead President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team, replacing New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, sources familiar with the transition efforts confirmed Friday to The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Trump reportedly told advisers  that he wanted Mr. Pence’s “Washington experience and contacts” to help move the process along, according to the New York Times.

Gov. Christie, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, and retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn will serve as vice chairs of the transition, the Times is reporting.

The former Indiana Governor also served in Congress, representing the Hoosier state from 2001 until 2013. Pence quickly made a name for himself in Washington as a principled conservative, coining the phrase, “I am a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order.”

Pence served as chairman of the House Republican Conference, the group charged with communicating the party’s message  to members. Pence is well-respected in D.C. circles. He left Washington, D.C. to serve as Indiana’s 5oth Governor in 2013, before joining Trump as his Vice-Presidential nominee.

Something that may get lost amid all of the well-known, public faces is the promotion of Rick Dearborn to the role of “transition director.” Dearborn is the chief of staff for Alabama Sen. Jeff Session’s Washington, D.C. office, and his elevated role may be an indication of where Sessions may end up in the Trump Administration.

Members of Trump’s tight inner-circle were seen making thier way into Trump Tower Friday, including former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, spokesswoman Hope Hicks and campaign chief, Steve Bannon.

Trump tweeted Friday that he had a “busy day planned in New York” and that he will “soon be making some very important decisions on the people who will be running our government.”

Pence will take the reins from Christie, who is still expected to be heavily involved with the transition.
