House Democrats want New York Rep. Joe Crowley to challenge former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to become leader, according to a Thursday report from The Hill.

“I don’t think [Crowley] has decided yet but he will make a decision soon,” an unnamed Democratic lawmaker told The Hill. “This is a risky decision.”

“He’s a good man, a good leader and he’s liked by all,” another said, about why Crowley would be a good pick for Democratic leadership.

Crowley is unlikely to accept the call to challenge Pelosi, according to inside sources. Crowley is currently a member of Pelosi’s leadership team, and is close to the Democratic whip Rep. Steny Hoyer.

Although Pelosi announced she planned to run for the position again, House Democrats postponed the vote to discuss other options. Pelosi claims that she enjoys the support of at least two-thirds of Democratic members, but Democrats, including Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts aren’t so sure.

“I haven’t seen her list,” Moulton told The Hill Wednesday. “But she said that the overwhelming view of the caucus was to hold elections on Thursday, and obviously that was not the overwhelming view.”

Pelosi shepherded the Affordable Care Act through Congress during her tenure as Speaker, but every election since returned reduced Democratic power in both chambers of Congress.

The Democrats are in the middle of an epic shakeup with several members and politicians scrambling bids for chair of the Democratic National Committee, including former presidential candidate Howard Dean and Rep. Ellison, a progressive.
