Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid called FBI director James Comey a “Republican operative” on Thursday and accused the Obama appointee of helping throw the election to Donald Trump.

“I love Hillary Clinton, I’m sorry she lost, I did everything I could to help,” Reid said during an interview on MSNBC’s “All in with Chris Hayes.”

But the Nevada Democrat blamed Comey for helping defeat Clinton by issuing a letter 11 days before the election stating that he was re-opening the investigation into the former secretary of state’s emails.

“There is no question in my mind, she would have won this election without any problem if Comey had not been the Republican operative that he is,” Reid asserted.

Hayes interjected: “Those are strong words there.”

“But I believe it,” responded Reid, who will leave the Senate in January. “He came out against what the Attorney General had recommended, against what common sense dictates. He is the reason she lost the election.”

“Comey, he can be fat and happy in his office there for seven more years,” Reid continued, adding, “after having thrown the election to Donald Trump.”
