Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova credited President-elect Trump’s victory to ‘the Jews’ on national television, Radio Free Europe reports.
“If you want to know what will happen in America, who do you have to talk to? You have to talk to the Jews, naturally. But of course,” Zakharova said. She then began speaking in a caricatured “Jewish” tone, describing how Jewish Americans donated to both the Clinton and Trump campaigns.
“If you want to know the future, don’t read the mainstream newspapers — our people in Brighton will tell you everything,” she closed, making a reference to the large Jewish community in New York City.
“Wow. And this is the woman who criticizes me for not being diplomatic,” former U.S. ambassador to Russia Michael McCaul said on Facebook after the comments came to light.
