Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California said Sunday that he felt former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney would be a great pick for secretary of state.

“In this new world, I would love Mitt Romney at the State Department. I think he would be a consummate diplomat. I think he could come up to speed on foreign policy issues but I think it’s a total head fake,” Schiff said on CNN‘s “State of the Union.”

“I think this is Donald Trump still being the entertainer, still running a show where he wants to build suspense. He alone knows which contestant will be the winner, and I think it’s more a nod to give the appearance of bringing people together but I would be very surprised if he chooses Romney.”

Although President-elect Trump met with Romney privately Saturday, RNC Chair and newly declared Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said that former New York Mayor Rudy Guliani is still under intense scrutiny for the role as well, according to The Hill.

Romney himself had little to say about the meeting with Trump, but the topic of conversation had to do with potential matters of state.

“We had a far-reaching conversation with regard to the various theaters in the world where there are interests of the United States of real significance. We discussed those areas and exchanged our views on those topics,” Romney told CNN Sunday.
