Texas police officers bolstered protections for law enforcement personnel in light of violent, unprovoked attacks against the men in blue this past weekend.

A police department in Fort Worth now demands that two vehicles arrive per call and Dallas now encourages their officers to pair up when patrolling, reports CBS DFW.

Arlington police officers now have backup on all calls, a move the police department made after the Dallas shootings. Plano police recently said that they will have new changes coming as well, but they will not be public.

Sgt. Mike Mata of the Dallas Police Association acknowledged that the current climate is scary for police officers. Having a second pair of eyes, he said, makes it safer overall.

“It’s more productive also knowing there is an officer there watching your back. Another set of eyes—when the lead officer is engaged,” Mata explained.

Four police officers were attacked within a 24-hour period. A San Antonio police officer was fatally shot while trying to issue a traffic ticket Sunday morning. (RELATED: Four Cops Shot Throughout Country In 24 Hour Period)

Two Missouri police officers were shot as well. In one drive-by incident, the shooter fired on an officer while in his car. The other Missouri officer was shot while conducting a routine traffic stop.

A Florida officer was shot as well.

In light of these attacks, officers remain aware of the dangers they face on the job.

“I have to think about it, but at the same time I can’t let it overshadow what I’m called here to do. And I’m supposed to do my job. It’s in the back of my mind, but you put your safety first and you trust your training and I trust the Lord. Simple as that,” Sr. Cpl. Christine Smith of the Dallas Police Department said.
