The Office of Government Ethics (OGE) official Twitter account unleashed a tweet storm Wednesday praising Republican President-elect Donald Trump for pledging to sever ties from his business operations, using words like “bravo” and “brilliant.”
The executive branch office designed to prevent federal employee conflicts of interest fired off nine tweets praising Trump after the Republican announced on his own Twitter account that “legal documents are being crafted which would take me completely out of business operations.” OGE, run by a President Barack Obama-appointed director, urged Trump to divest his businesses.
But it’s unclear whether Trump will fully divest, as the OGE didn’t use such specific language.
.@realDonalTrump As we discussed with your counsel, divestiture is the way to resolve these conflicts.

.@realDonaldTrump Brilliant! Divestiture is good for you, very good for America!

.@realDonaldTrump We can’t repeat enough how good this total divestiture will be

.@realDonaldTrump OGE applauds the “total” divestiture decision. Bravo!

OGE did not respond to a request to comment about who sent the tweets or whether Trump agreed to a full divestiture with OGE. (RELATED: ‘Risk Of Favoritism’ Seen As Trump Appointees Negotiate His Hotel’s Rent)
Democrats in particular have seized on Trump’s extensive business ties, asking Congress to investigate and pleading with Trump to cease such activities.
