IBM CEO Ginni Rometty promised to hire and train 25,000 workers in the U.S. Tuesday afternoon, hours before she and the company’s board were slated to meet with President-elect Donald Trump.
“At IBM alone, we have thousands of open positions at any given moment, and we intend to hire about 25,000 professionals in the next four years in the United States, 6,000 of those in 2017. IBM will also invest $1 billion in training and development of our U.S. employees in the next four years,” she wrote in USA Today Tuesday afternoon.

The firm hired nearly 378,000 employees in 2015, according to IBM’s 2015 annual report.
Rometty wrote an open letter to the president-elect just one week after Trump defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The technology executive told Trump, “I know that you are committed to help America’s economy grow in ways that are good for all of its people.”
The IBM executive is one of 16 leaders of the business community chosen to advise the president-elect on the economy.
