Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was shot at an Ankara art gallery Monday.

Karlov was shot while giving a speech; his condition is currently unknown, Turkish media reports. Several others were reportedly wounded in the attack, according to CNN Turk. Karlov’s attacker appears to be wearing a suit, and reportedly shouted during the attack. Some reports say he shouted “We will make you pay for Aleppo,” and others say he screamed “Allahu Akbar.”

Turkish media reports that Karlov’s attacker was shot dead by police shortly after the incident. One photo appears to show the gunman standing over Karlov’s body with a gun in his hand while gesticulating.

Photos circulating after the attack appear to show that the gunman was a member of Ankara’s police special operations force.
