Outraged parents started a petition to remove a Florida teacher who allegedly erected a Satanic display next to a nativity scene.

Boca Raton Community Middle School parents were in the middle of drafting a petition as of Monday to get language arts teacher Preston Smith removed, reports WPTV.

“I just don’t feel comfortable about it and I don’t agree with it,” Solange Bush, the mother of a 14-year-old boy, said. She tried unsuccessfully to switch her son out of Smith’s class.

They also have a protest planned. Parents are concerned that Smith may be inflicting his views on their children. It turns out that Smith set up a Satanic display next to a nativity scene in Sanborn Square with permission from the city of Boca Raton.

The display consists of a 10-foot pentagram with a banner reading “May the children hail Satan.” It sits next to an exhibit of a menorah.

Smith staunchly defended his exhibit, saying that he doesn’t preach his beliefs in the classroom.

“‘May the Children Hail Satan’ is an artistic expression of defiance toward the Sanborn Square nativity scene, which performs an annual reenactment of predatory indoctrination in a public park targeting young children before they have critical thinking skills,” he claimed.

Superintendent Dr. Robert Avossa said he understands parent’s anger, but the school can’t “micromanage” a teacher’s actions outside of the classroom.

The sign has been vandalized multiple times. It was ripped down and spray painted Monday afternoon.

The president of the school’s parent teacher association insists that Smith must leave his position. While she can’t speak for all of the parents, Kim Bremer believes that students should not be entrusted with Smith.

“A teacher we entrust our children with should not be putting a sign like this anywhere,” Bremer said.
