An Austrian asylum seeker stabbed a 50-year-old Christian woman Wednesday after he heard her read the Bible out loud at a refugee shelter.
The woman was invited by Christian residents at the shelter to discuss the Bible. The alleged attacker, a 22-year-old man from Afghanistan, got so offended when he heard what was going on that he grabbed a butter knife from the kitchen and stabbed the woman, The Local reports.
The woman survived major injury by wearing a thick winter coat, but sustained injuries to her ear, according to Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung.
The man admitted he overreacted and said he’s suffering from ‘personal problems’ during interrogations with police. The suspect remains in custody in Wels Prison in Upper Austria, but it’s unclear if he’s been charged with any crimes.

The alarms will emit a shrill sound when activated to help police navigate through the crowd at Vienna’s largest New Year’s Eve celebration.
