As Republicans gear up to “repeal and replace” Obamacare once President-elect Donald Trump takes office, Democrats are making it blatantly clear that they will not work with Republicans to dismantle President Obama’s landmark healthcare legislation.

“If they think we’re going to come in and save their butts when they screw it up? No. If they are having trouble, work with us not to repeal ACA, but to improve ACA,” Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters.  “We’re not going to sit down in a room with them once they repeal and say let’s figure out a joint plan. They have to show us what their alternative is, and there’s a small chance maybe it’s a good plan. Highly unlikely.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is very vocal about her distaste for Republican plans to repeal Obamacare. Pelosi is calling on her fellow House Democrats to hold press events in their respective districts “to highlight the risks of repeal of the ACA and of ending the Medicare guarantee.” “Republicans’ so-called ‘repeal and delay’ plan is code for ‘repeal without an alternative,” House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer said.

It isn’t merely Democratic leadership that is making its intentions known. Other Congressional Democrats are chiming in and letting their disapproval be heard. “They’re going to try to rush this through so fast that the American publican can’t see what they did,” Connecticut Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy told reporters. “It’s in our interest to make this process go long enough so that people can see what a debacle this is.” If Republicans decide to go ahead with repeal and replace, “we will hold them accountable,” echoed Sen. Debbie Stabenow from Michigan.

Obama is reportedly heading to Capitol Hill Wednesday to meet with House and Senate Democrats to discuss ways to save the Affordable Care Act. (RELATED: 3 Changes Obama Could Make To Help Save Obamacare)
