Likely voters see CNN as the least trustworthy cable news outlet — compared to Fox News and MSNBC — according to a new Rasmussen Reports survey examining cable news viewership.

The poll, released Wednesday, shows that a majority of likely voters — 75 percent — said they watch cable news for political coverage at least once a week. Fox News was the most popular channel among those likely voters who watch cable news with 42 percent saying they “generally watch” Fox News — compared with 35 percent who “generally watch” CNN and 19 percent who watch MSNBC.

Among those likely voters who watch CNN, just 33 percent said they trust the political news they get — compared with 43 percent of MSNBC and 50 percent of Fox News viewers.

Overall, according to the poll, just 37 percent of likely voters said they trust the political news they consume, while 36 percent said they do not trust it. Another 26 percent said they are not sure.

“Cable news networks were the number one source of news about the presidential campaign for 37% of voters,” Rasmussen added. “Twenty-two percent (22%) relied on internet news sites, while just as many (21%) turned to traditional TV networks news. Seven percent (7%) got most of their news about the campaign from social media. Five percent (5%) used radio, and four percent (4%) looked primarily at print newspapers.”

The poll of 1,000 likely voters was conducted on January 2, 2017 and has a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.

Rasmussen released the survey on the same day it published another poll showing that 48 percent of likely voters think most reporters are “biased against” Donald Trump — with just 12 percent believing reporters are biased for Trump. Another 31 percent said they think reporters try to “be fair and balanced.”

“Eighty-one percent (81%) of voters who turn to Fox News for political coverage think most reporters are biased against the president-elect,” the Rasmussen explained of the second poll. “Forty-six percent (46%) of CNN watchers and 60% of those who prefer MSNBC for political news believe most reporters try to be fair and balanced.”
