The alleged perpetrator in the Fort Lauderdale airport shooting, Esteban Santiago, flew in from Alaska with his weapon in checked baggage, NBC reports

A local official previously claimed that the shooter “was a passenger on a Canadian flight,” and NBC had confirmed this was the case. NBC is now reporting that Santiago flew into Fort Lauderdale from Ancourage, Alaska.

The Transportation Security Administration allows people to check unloaded weapons and ammunition in baggage. The shooting has so far resulted in five dead and several wounded. Santiago was apprehended by police after running out of ammunition.
