A series of bomb threats were reported at several Jewish centers in the U.S. and the United Kingdom Monday morning, according to local reports.
The threats occurred at locations in Marlyand, Tennessee, South Carolina, New Jersey, as well as Miami and Jacksonville, Florida. It is unclear whether or not they are related.
Two Miami-Dade Jewish community centers were evacuated Monday morning, reported the Miami Herald, both received by phone. Shortly after, Miami Beach police evacuated the Miami Beach Jewish Community Center and swept the area with K9 units. The facility was determined all-clear by noon.
The Jewish Community Alliance of Jacksonville also received a threat by phone and was given the all-clear an hour later.
Nashville police responded to a threat at the Gordon Jewish Community Center in West Nashville, Tennessee.
“Unfortunately there’s been a spate of these threats called into Jewish community centers and to day schools across the country,” Mark Freedman, the local Jewish Federation director, told The Tennessean Monday. “This is evidence of a disturbing trend of disrupting and terrorizing community facilities.”
The Jewish Community Center of Rockville, Md., just outside Washington, D.C., received a threat via phone, also forcing an evacuation.
The Katie and Irwin Kahn Jewish Community Center in Columbia, S.C. also received a threat.
A threat was also reported at the Siegel Jewish Community Center north of Wilmington, Delaware.
The Jewish Community Center on Palisades in Tenafly, N.J. received a threat just after noon. An all-clear was given just after 1:30 pm.
A similar series of threats occurred in the U.K., where Jewish schools across the country were placed on alert after bomb threats were called into Jewish schools around the London metropolitan area, including Roehampton, Ilford and Brent.
The perpetrators of the threats remain unknown as police continue to investigate, although the threats follow similar incidents at Jewish centers in Florida last Wednesday. An FBI official told The Daily Caller News Foundation that it was aware of the threats, but a federal investigation has yet to be called.
TheDCNF’s Richard Pollock contributed to this report.
